The thousand lives
of plastic

Born from the Institute for the Promotion
of Recycled Plastics (IPPR) is the idea to create,
first in Italy and Europe, an ecological label for
materials and products made from recycled
plastic: the PSV Plastic Second Life certification.
The Mark is an environmental product
certification system dedicated to materials and
products obtained from the recovery of plastic
waste from separate collection and from industrial
waste. It is the first Italian and European label
dedicated to recycled plastic, introducing the
concepts of “quality” and “traceability”
in recycling plastics. The Mark was created to
make recyclable plastic goods more visible and
easily identifiable, especially those intended
for Public Administrations and/or
public capital companies, as well as for the GDO
(Grocery Distribution Organized).

PSV from separate collection: for materials and products with 30% to 100% polymers
derived from separate collection, whose specifications are defined by DM 203/03 on
Green Public Procurement (GPP) as well as by the Ministry of the Environment circular of
August 4, 2004. For post-consumer raw materials only, compliance with the UNI standards
of series 10667 as applicable is required.

PSV Mix Eco: for materials and products obtained from mixtures of materials
derived from separate collection and/or industrial waste that meet a
minimum recycled plastic content of 5%.

PSV By-Product: certifies plastic materials managed as by-products (i.e., residues,
scraps, and pre-consumer plastic industrial waste derived from both the production and
transformation of polymers, effectively used in the same or a subsequent process of
plastic material processing by the producer or third parties, without further treatment
beyond normal industrial practice, as they already meet the sector’s commodity
requirements, for additional production/transformation activities of plastic materials)
and/or materials and/or semi-finished products and/or products made from by-products.
Minimum by-product content ≥ 5%. The possibility of reducing this percentage is subject
to authorization by IPPR in the presence of specific technical or regulatory provisions.
Compliance with Article 184 bis of Legislative Decree 152/2006 is an indispensable
prerequisite for certification.

PSV is a certification scheme recognized by PolyCertEurope, which is the
European platform that brings together certifications on recycled plastic content
sharing a series of common parameters, with the aim of harmonizing third-party
audit systems and facilitating the circular economy. This is also intended to provide
objective and effective tools for verifying data related to companies’ commitment
within the Circular Plastics Alliance.
